A quick thought on making things ‘better’

So, Kat came home today with a packet of "Perline Pasta & Prosciutto" from Trader Joe's today, and strongly intimated that we should make this for dinner.

I look at the packet, and the suggestion is 'serve with your favorite sauce'.  Well, my favorite sauce is a red sauce, and that's just going to drown the flavors, you know?  This stuff is like a tortellini, but far more delicate.

So the plan was, toss it in butter and add a little Parmesan, but when I opened the packet, I decided that what it really needed was some mushrooms to offset the prosciutto.  

What I ended up doing, was melt a half-stick of butter in a pan, toss in about 8oz of canned mushrooms, and saute those until they get soft.  Cook the pasta (blanche is a better term for these) and throw them in the pan and toss to coat.  Somewhere along the way I added 1/4 of Parmesan too.

Amusingly, if I hadn't added the mushrooms, there probably wouldn't have been enough for the two of us…

Anyway, I'm thinking next time I might try something similar with a three-cheese tortellini, and add some prosciutto along with the mushrooms.  I'll let you know how it goes, or if you try it first, let me know in the comments… 🙂
